Functional Testing
Incorporating functional tests that provide markers for metabolic, mitochondrial, micronutrient, hormonal, and environmental factors in chronic illnesses, is an important part of holistic nutritional therapy. These tests help identify imbalances and disruptions within the body, providing the necessary evidence for crafting the most efficient, bio-individualised, and revitalising nutritional protocols.
These are some of the tests I utilise:
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis: read about HTMA testing here.
Methylation Report: Methylation is involved in almost every metabolic process in the body, occurring billions of times every second in our cells and contributing to numerous crucial functions. Imbalances in methylation can increase susceptibility to chronic health conditions such as heart disease, chronic fatigue, infertility, immune conditions, food and chemical sensitivities, and mood disorders, as well as cancer and premature ageing. Find out more here.
DUTCH Test: this test provides a comprehensive assessment of 35 different sex and adrenal hormones, including oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA melatonin, and cortisol, plus, the oxidative stress marker 8-OHdG. Find out more here.
Histamine Intolerance: Histamine has many vital functions in the body. Histamine intolerance occurs when there is an imbalance between accumulated histamine and the capacity to break it down. When the body is unable to break histamine down quickly enough it becomes toxic, resulting in symptoms such as, eczema, PMS, digestive problems, headaches, insomnia and anxiety. Find out more here.
Your supplement stack: how much to invest?
Supplements are an integral part of any effective nutritional therapy protocol.
The purpose of supplements is primarily to increase the body’s vitamin and mineral levels sufficiently in a short time period, providing cells with the raw materials needed to function optimally.
Other uses include: improving the liver’s detoxification capacity, nourishing the adrenals, lowering inflammation levels, increasing blood and oxygen circulation, and aiding digestion and gut health. Addressing these areas are indispensable to achieving a truly successful nutrition and lifestyle plan.
A realistic monthly budget to be expected for supplements is £30 minimum. We ensure to utilise the highest quality supplements that also fit your budget. By focusing on effectiveness and affordability, we ensure that every supplement recommendation aligns with both your wellness goals and your budget, making your health journey sustainable and accessible.
The vast majority of supplements used in my clinic are short-term, ranging from 1 to 6 months. Whilst a food-first approach is foundational for longstanding wellness and resilience, we utilise a combination of multivitamin and mineral blends, herbal and adaptogenic formulas, digestive aids, animal-based products, and antioxidant formulas to address various imbalances and to fortify. Supplements come in the form of capsules, tinctures, herbal preparations, sprays, oils (both topical and oral), soft gels, and powders for maximum absorption, efficacy, and convenience.
